Last week we started a new reader in the Jolly phonics section. this week it is the turn of the RED HEN. Today instead o fjust reading the book, the children had many flashcards which are all found in this book. While I was reading the story slowly, the children had to check if they had the card with the words I was saying, come out an form a sentence. It was lots of fun, all children were encouraged to read not only their own cards but they were interested to see who had the word needed to continue the sentence. We also realized that some sentences were short while others were longer and included some repeated words such as ‘the’ and ‘was’.
You can always try this system out if the children get a bit bored in reading the same story. It also helps for sentence structure.
